The UAE’s Sharjah emirate opened a new eco-park today in an effort to boost eco-friendly and sustainable tourism in the area. Officially named the Buhais Geology Park, the new attraction is located just off Highway E55 between Meleha and Al Madam near the country’s border with Oman.
The park showcases the history of plant, animal, and human life in the area, with fossils dating back millions of years and archaeological sites from the area’s much earlier human inhabitants.
Tourism makes up less than 10% of Sharjah’s GDP, but it is a growing sector for the country’s third most popular emirate after its much more well known national brethren, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
