When one normally thinks of mega cruise ships, itineraries including the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Southeast Asia often come to mind. But US cruise line company Royal Caribbean has added a new port of call to the itinerary of its mega ship Jewel of the Seas – Doha.
With 12 passenger decks teeming with thousands of foreign visitors, the Jewel of the Seas sailed into Doha Port amid a grand welcome Qatari tourism and hospitality industry officials, including the Secretary-General of the Qatar National Tourism Council and CEO of Qatar Airways, H. E. Akbar Al Baker.
Passengers disembarked to tour Doha and visit classic Doha attractions including the Museum of Islamic Art and Souq Waqif.
The Jewel of the Seas is scheduled to make at least four more visits to Doha over the next year, while Qatar expects 73 additional ships to bring nearly a quarter of a million visitors to the country over the same period.
