In a groundbreaking move for the airline industry, Dubai-based Emirates Airlines announced its plans to leverage the metaverse for cabin crew training. This innovative approach was unveiled by Adel Ahmed Al Redha, Chief Operating Officer of Emirates, during the recent Dubai Metaverse Assembly hosted at the Museum of the Future.
The globally recognized event gathered a constellation of international and regional experts, dedicated to shaping the trajectory of the metaverse—a collective virtual shared space, often facilitated by the merger of physical and digital entities.
Al Redha elaborated on the airline’s ambitious endeavor, stating that Emirates aims to onboard 4,000 new cabin crew members, providing them with immersive training experiences within the metaverse. The state-of-the-art virtual technology not only enables accurate simulation of real-life scenarios but also allows detailed visualization and configuration of aircraft interiors.
Drawing attention to the airline’s use of the metaverse for intricate design work, Al Redha highlighted its role in the conception and configuration of the A350 in the United States. Through a blend of the metaverse and virtual reality, the airline can simulate a comprehensive walk-through of the aircraft, refining every detail to mirror the envisioned look for 2024.
In a statement to Arabian Business, Al Redha emphasized the scale and significance of this digital shift: “With an existing strength of 16,000 cabin crew, our goal is to upscale this to nearly 20,000 by the middle of next year. The continuous enhancement of our onboard services, from culinary offerings to overall customer experience, relies heavily on this immersive training technology. Traditional training methods simply won’t suffice to achieve the precision and efficiency we aim for.”
